How It Works

This virtual tour with Professor Andrew Lear leads you on a secret trail through New York's great art museum, revealing the LGBTQ secrets of artworks from many cultures, genres, and artists—from Ancient Greek sculpture to Picasso's Gertrude Stein.

Dr. Lear is seen as an expert on the comparison between ancient and modern views and practices of gender and sexuality. This experience will combine a museum tour and digital presentations to illuminate the history of homosexuality hidden in the collections of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art bringing to light LGBTQ culture that is largely obscured from the dominant conversations on culture, history, and art.

Have you ever wondered about depictions of royal mistresses and courtesans, representations of gay relationships, or pathbreaking women? The information you'll receive will be novel and unforgettable.

Oscar Wilde Tours has existed since 2013. It was the first and remains the only tour company focused on LGBTQ+ history and culture. Pre-pandemic it offered tours of US art museums and multi-day tours in Europe. Its tours have been widely praised in media such as The Daily Beast, The Huffington Post, NPR's Studio 360, NBC4, Out Magazine, and more. This year it has pivoted to offering virtual presentations. We have a series of public presentations on Sunday, called "Zooming Through Queer Culture," with many different speakers, and we offer presentations also to private groups, in particular ERGs/BRGs. We have done events for many top companies, including DB, HBSC, JPMC, Amex, Google, Dropbox, Snapchat, and eBay.
